I've never tried to smelt them, they make a nice block though by the image.

Emeralds currently have no uses, you can't even craft emerald blocks with the emeralds that you do find, that's how useless they are currently.
They are useless maybe you could use it for decoration but thiers no real use to them.
Can they store/lead redstone?
Like its pretty stupid logic but sand can do it and iron, yes an iron block don't...

Can you power them.
You can power certain blocks and thanks to it the redstone signal goes through the block.
Emeralds does Nothing except for decorations.
Or Buildings.
