it can turn into stone but that's pretty rare. I lived near a lava and water filled area. it was as if someone intended for it to be a trap or a sight to behold. but it was dangerous and I poured water everywhere to get rid of the lava. Honestly it's not the LAVA turning into stone and cobblestone, it was the water. Trust me, a couple of my water sources were wasted in the process of getting rid of the lava.
honestly a phantom player doesn't sound that scary cuz in my old base there seemed to be a player living there in my offline hours. I once saw a note that was creepy and directed to someone.
Coords to my abandoned base: 146;-136 I think. once you see a huge pond-like water area that eventually goes into a pit, look for a trapdoor. plenty of farmland. No plants though.
Lava can turn into obsidian and cobblestone, but not regular stone.
It's possible for lava and water to create regular stone in specific types of interactions.
In Minecraft, the Water and Lava interactions go like this;
When flowing lava hits flowing water it results in regular stone.
-
When flowing lava hits a water source block it also results in regular stone.
-
When flowing water hits flowing lava it results in cobblestone.

When flowing water hits a lava source block it results in obsidian.

Bill, there are only two possibilities from what I can tell:
unless lava has a glitch or bug that causes it to become stone.
