Hey guys! Today,I'll be suggesting a fishing mechanic for PoC I hope you guys enjoy! :D
First,there will be 2 types of fishing rods: Wooden(3 sticks,and 2 string),and Iron(3 iron ingots,and 3 string).
Next, you need fishing bait to catch the fish you want. For bait you can use spider eyes, worms, beetles, ants, grasshoppers, fireflies, bees, butterflies, snails, spider meat, certain raw fish, certain raw animal meat, sugarcane, kelp, lillypads, other aquatic plants, shrimp, crabs, and lobsters(some of these items either currently exist, have been previously suggested,or will be suggested in the future). The fish you catch or attract depends on the bait you use also, for example, herbnivorous fish will eat plants, carvnivorous fish will eat certain invertebrates, spider meat, and other fish, and obnivorous fish will eat plants, invertebrates, and certain fish,it also depends on what the fish species eat in the real world too.
Once you have bait, and a fishing rod,you can put the bait on the fishing rod in the crafting table, or in your inventory crafting, with a different crafting recipe icon for every type of bait(for example there's a crafting recipe for Spider meat+fishing rod, beetle+fishing rod, kelp+ fishing rod, lillypad+ fishing rod,raw fish+ fishing rod, salmon+ fishing rod, etc.)and for both types of fishing rods(it'll have it's own individual crafting table category called,"fishing"),then you can cast your fishing rod into the water, and if there's fish mobs in the water(depending on the bait and fishing rod type)in a 20×10×20 block radius, they'll swim towards the fishing rod's bobber(while emitting bubble trail particles),and then when they "bite" the fishing rod's bobber,it'll make a loud splash sound, tons of bubble particles, and then you have to reel in the fish before it's too late(you have about 5 seconds),and once you reel the fish in,it'll kill the fish, and it'll give you it's items. If there are no fish mobs around for long enough(or if you have no bait),then fishing will be similar to current MineCraft fishing, where you can catch junk&treasure items, raw fish,salmon,clownfish,pufferfish,bass,blue-gill,sea bass, cod, minnow, sardine, pirhana, and cichlid(also based on biome).
Junk&Treasure items can also be based on biome too,and some are more likely to catch than others.
Junk items:
Lily Pad(10/83 catch in category chance any biome except snow biomes 1.2%)
sugarcane(5/83 catch in category chance 0.6%)
random aquatic plants(10/83 catch chance in category the plants you get depends on biome 1.2%)
stick(10/83 catch in category chance 1.2%)
ink sacks(10/83 catch in category chance ocean, swamp, and tropical beach biomes only 1.2%)
leather boots(10/83 catch in category chance 1.2%)
sponge(5/83 catch in category chance ocean, tropic beach, and swamp biomes only 0.6% iron fishing rod only)
random coral(5/83 catch in category chance ocean, and tropical beach biomes only 0.6%)
tripwire hook(10/83 catch in category chance 1.2%)
leather horse armor(1/83 catch in category chance 0.1% iron fishing rod only)
water bottle(10/83 catch in category chance 1.2%)
leather(10/83 catch in category chance 1.2%)
bowl(10/83 catch in category chance 1.2%)
fishing rod(2/83 catch in category chance 0.2%)
string(5/83 C.I.C. 0.6%)
bone(10/83 C.I.C. 1.2%)
rotten flesh(5/83 C.I.C. 0.6%)
Cocoa beans(5/83 C.I.C. 0.6% Jungles and Tropical beach biomes only)
Treasure:
enchanted bow(1/6 chance in category 0.8%)
enchanted fishing rod(1/6 C.I.C. 0.8%)
enchanted book(1/6 C.I.C. 0.8%)
saddle(1/6 C.I.C. 0.8%)
nametag(1/6 C.I.C. 0.8%)
enchanted gold helmet(1/6 0.8% ocean biomes only iron fishing rod only)
enchanted diamond boots(1/6 0.8% ocean biomes only iron fishing rod only)
enchanted iron sword(1/6 0.8% ocean biomes only iron fishing rod only)
diamond horse armor(1/6 0.8% ocean biomes only iron fishing rod only)
diamond(1/6 0.8% ocean biomes only iron fishing rod only)
Fish:
raw fish(51.0%)
salmon(21.2%)
pufferfish(11.1% oceans, swamps, jungles, and tropical beach biomes only)
clownfish(1.7% oceans and tropical beach biomes only iron fishing rods only)
minnow(60% freshwater biomes only)
sardine(60% saltwater biomes only)
blue-gill(21.2% all freshwater biomes except cold biomes iron fishing rods only)
bass(18.5% all freshwater biomes except cold biomes iron fishing rods only)
sea bass(18.5% in ocean biomes,20.2% in ice spikes and ice ocean biomes iron fishing rods only)
cod(21.2% ocean biomes only iron fishing rods only)
piranha(11.1% jungle and swamp biomes only iron fishing rods only)
cichlid(11.1% jungle and Savannah biomes only)
However, other types fish other than the listed ones can spawn as mobs, but only the ones listed above can be caught without bait, and without having to attract the fish mobs to the fishing rod, however attracting fish with a baited fishing rod is more beneficial than doing it without a baited fishing rod because reeling in a fish mob is the equivalent of killing it,so it can drop chanced items that it would drop if you would of killed them normally, however reeling in a catch in the fish category without a fishing rod will only give you a raw fish item. However if you want junk or treasure items, you may have to use an non baited fishing rod for that.
To catch more fish than treasure and junk, you need to get the "Lure" enchantment on a fishing rod.
To catch more treasure, you need the "Luck of the sea" enchantment on a fishing rod.
To catch more junk, you need the "Junk rod"(the name I gave it is sooo original. Lol.) enchantment on a fishing rod.
To catch cooked fishes instead of raw ones, you need the"Smelter" enchantment(the Smelter enchantment can also be used on pickaxes,to get iron/gold ingots from mining iron/gold ores)on a fishing rod.
I hope you guys like my suggestion
BlueTangs Rock3,this is awesome suggestion maybe have like a fly fishing rod also
Loving it! Fishing sounds like such a nice thing to do..... Maybe make it so there's a -5% chance when you hit water or something if you fish in that spot?
hit water? Like punching in the water,or jumping in the water?
BlueTangs Rock3, sorry for such a long reply, jumping or entering in any way.... Unless you are on lillypad or boat (if they're added) but for now maybe let them do something small like getting fish swimming in water only and getting fishing rods.
Pocadmin.... please listen to bluetangs suggestions. Soooo many damn essays. Just do what he says already....
You are a fish tho
Just Lemon, sharks are a type of fish too. Lol
Sharks are in a category of fish known as cartilage fish.
Thank you for the suggestion! We are going to add fishing in future updates!
