While trying to trick my way past the intended world border (32715) I figured you could use mounted entities to explore the area past that border (which is another 10 chunks, adding it up to 32725) until the realm stops, with the server constantly trying to set your position back to where you were before exiting the intended boundaries but only getting the job half done because the entity you're riding, which does NOT get set back to 32714, will always warp you back to where IT is (maybe client-side but i did get attacked by a zombie beyond the bounds before)
and yes you can control the entity in use
here's a screenshot of what it looks like to truly be at the edge of the map (used a boat cause too poor for saddle)

unfortunately you cant exit the mount to stay there nor load any realms beyond the border realms because it either is hard-coded to not work (hopefully that is not the case) or the server has to first approve of the player's position being beyond the intended boundaries, which you cant do as far as knowledge goes
if you have come up with your own ideas for past-border exploration and want to share them please leave a comment
ultimate goal (requires server approval of the player's position): load a realm behind the border

so i guess the screenshot didnt pop up in the initial text wall so heres another try

forgot to mention that yes, you can set new home points in the loaded chunks that are past the bounds, but sadly the game does not let you respawn to them
when setting that home point you see on the screenshot my home point was not removed from the inventory so there are some curious ideas

When I was experimenting with passing the world boundary with donkeys, I've noticed that changes to the player's inventory cease to work outside of the border, as it gives you an error pop-up if you try to unsaddle the donkey, or move items around in your inventory. Pretty interesting stuff.

Also in my experience, passing the world boundary forces you to look straight ahead, as if you try to look around it'll snap your head back into place, so you can't really turn around; you can only move ahead, backwards, or to the left/right without looking that way.

This was one of the screenshots from the experiment back on Feb 13:

You can remove saddles?

and how do you do chainmail and string?
First I'm going to machu pichu to have a look, then I'm probably moving out of the spawn region , most stuff will be left at my small base...I don't think I'll make it to the world border but depends if I find a nice place to set up.
How long does it take...

When you saddle an animal and then go into your inventory, there should be an icon that leads you the the animal's inventory interface where you could add/remove saddles, horse armors, and chests (depending on whether it's a horse or donkey).
-
It's possible to craft a saddle in the crafting table, if I could recall it's recipe involved leather, sticks, and iron ingots, so they're relatively easy to craft.
-
Chainmail armor is currently only occasionally dropped by monsters wearing that specific armor set, and from an uncommon lucky block drop.
-
I'm unsure about how long the journey to the world border is, as I personally got teleported there, but I would recommend traveling there via Spawntown portals rather than other forms of transportation as those portals are the 2nd fastest transportation method in the game(the fastest being teleporting to someone who's already where you're wanting to go).

BlueTangs Rock3,if you try hard to go fast the time can be brought down to 12 minutes when traveling from capital

I've seen some amazing bases so far, I'm walking from 1 portal to the next following the destruction trail...
Some pretty dodgy structures out here...

Good to know BlueTangs, I had to leave diamond armour from a lucky box on the horse as I didn't have the leather for a saddle ;(

Did u forgot to block coords?

Coordinates are shown on purpose to prove that we're at the world border.

block coords, what does that mean.

On Planet Craft, your coordinates show up at all times, even when you don't want them to show (when you're taking a screenshot of the game that you intend to share with others).
-
As a result, people typically try to find ways to block their coordinates in their screenshots (by editing their image to put something obstructing the part of the image with the coordinates), they crop out the coordinates in their image, or simply in-game they'll briefly switch between 1rst person to 3rd person then back to 1rst (as the pop-up that notifies which camera view you're at perfectly covers the coordinates on the screen).

another idea for utilization of the area beyond bounds is to make a super secure / secret stash (SSS) that can't be seen from inside intended bounds

If I could recall, players can't change the state of blocks (mining or placing) outside the world border, right?

mining is difficult, probably only doable with tools going at extreme speed
placing sadly also turns out to be impossible as of now, but that doesnt mean you cant use chests that belong to realm templates :)
changing the contents of chests out of intended bounds should work too

I doubt that using chests would work out there, since it seems like the game doesn't let you alter your inventory once you're out of bounds.

BlueTangs Rock3, one experiment was enough for me to tell that moving items to chests and back is not a problem

Oh, that's quite interesting!

I'm now curious about if the would bother saving items in chests outside of the world boundary for long periods of time? (say, like for a few days or a week for example)

Gordon
Gordon's picture

BlueTangs Rock3, i'm almost certain they are able to store items virtually forever since they are within loaded chunks that can un/reload and probably never get deleted
sorry for the late reply lol

new discoveries:
-sometimes, when going as deep into the "out of intended bounds" (lets call them OOIB for short) you get completely thrown back (might be boat exclusive)
-when you do get thrown back and off the boat (Boat 1), that boat gains a special property where it still rotates to where you're facing when you're in another boat (Boat 2); that means the reference player of Boat 1 does not change, while the reference mounted entity of the player does!

turns out you can also cause this effect when simply switching between boats OOIB

I have a couple of ideas that may work around this border issue if you want a base out of bounds.

i am a noob and i traveled way out of bounds in the global world for myself where in the portal you can see places you cant travel at all costs the tile looks like an grey eye with a cross which means i cant see it
